ABOUT US

Daily Use of the Center is Free of Charge

The Center for Neurological Development serves neurologically impaired children and adults, who, because of damage to their brain cells, suffer from physical, cognitive, speech, visual and/or perceptual handicaps. Influenced by the Doman/Delacato program, which believes that the brain develops through ‘developmental locomotion,’ our facility attempts to create an environment where the brain-injured person can experience these normal, early stages of movement. We do this by flooding the brain with stimulation, both passively and actively, through the four stages of mobility development: arm & leg movement, crawling, creeping, standing/walking. This methodology is designed to activate the unhurt, dormant cells (in a hurt brain) in hopes of unleashing neurological potential beyond the conventional range.

Neurological impairment covers a broad spectrum. Some of the specific diagnosis that our facility has experience with are: Brain damage, brain/head injury, stroke, Parkinson Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Cerebral Palsy, Down’s syndrome, learning disability, spinal cord injury, and neurological dysfunction.

To enroll in program, a patient must be evaluated by our certified, Sensorimotor Developmentalist. An appointment can be scheduled by contacting the Center. There is a small fee for all evaluations (day-to-day use of the center is free of charge). Upon assessment, a program of treatment will be recommended. All Programs are forwarded to the patients’ physician, where a signature of accord is required. Patients are re-evaluated approximately twice per year, at which time progress is recorded and programs are revised accordingly. All patients’ are required to recruit one (1) Helper to accompany and assist them at each therapy session. This person will be responsible for the patient and should be competent and attentive at all times.

The Center is governed by a 12 member board of trustees. The daily operating staff consists of a director, assistant director, therapy assistants, and office manager. A ‘tutoring department’ is also available providing speech, vision, and cognitive stimulus. We also provide and train volunteers to assist with the various therapies.

The Center is a not-for-profit, tax exempt organization and is incorporated. The Center receives NO state or federal assistance. All operating expenses, including the cost of therapy equipment, building maintenance, repairs, etc. are financed solely by donations.  The Center relies wholly on charity drives and financial contributions from organizations, churches, and the private sector to meet the challenges of these expenses.

VOLUNTEERS & DONORS

VOLUNTEERS ~ it is significant to recognize the abundant flow of Volunteers who come through our door, selflessly offering their services in lifting, maneuvering, and assisting patients through their routine. These men and women come from a five-county area. Our Volunteers are the very heartbeat of the organization. They enhance the overall morale and become a critical part of our rehab team. Our program could not survive without volunteerism. We are very grateful to all of them.

DONORS ~ Our Organization has been the recipient of countless acts of charity and altruism from the private sector throughout its history. The generosity of our Donors is outstanding. They are the reason our therapy services are ‘free of charge’, including our ability to make purchases, pay expenses, repairs & maintenance, etc. We are very grateful to all of them.
